The Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum - Skinningrove, UK
On August 7th 1847 the Cleveland Ironstone mine was opened unlocking the industrial region. Over the next 20 years men flocked to Cleveland from all four corners of the United Kingdom. One after another over 80 mines opened making Cleveland the most important ironstone mining district in the Victoria & Edwardian England; responsible for one third of the UK iron output.
The Cleveland Ironstone Museum was founded in 1983 by a group of volunteers to celebrate the heritage of the mining industry in Cleveland. The Incandescent Feeling's Flame bulbs provide realistic period lighting throughout the corridors. The above photo is of one of tour guides in the museum courtesy of the Cleveland Ironstone Museum.
